Questions, answered.
Lume starts with signals your wearable already records: heart rate, movement, temperature and sleep. The Lume band adds sweat measurement. Our model combines these and a few calibrating saliva samples, to estimate your cortisol rhythm across the day. In parallel, our team is building the next step: a sensor that reads cortisol directly from your sweat, continuously, using an aptamer-based sensor.
No. A blood test gives you one precise number at one moment, usually in a clinic. Lume shows you the shape of your whole day: when cortisol rises, peaks and falls, and how that shifts with sleep, stress and routine. They answer different questions.
No. Lume is needle-free. The band sits on your skin like any watch strap. There's no blood draw and no lab visit.
Sweat sensing is a cutting-edge field, with several research groups pushing past what was once thought possible. Sweat carries a surprising amount of information about what's happening inside the body, including hormones like cortisol. Until recently, it was too hard to collect reliably and too dilute to measure outside a lab. Advances in microfluidics, electrochemistry and flexible electronics are changing that. Our team includes leaders in those fields.
Today Lume focuses on cortisol, your body's main stress hormone and one of the clearest signals of your circadian rhythm. Estrogen and progesterone are next on our roadmap.
Your data is yours. Lume collects wellness data, meaning the signals from your watch and band, your saliva results and anything you log, and uses it to build your cortisol picture. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.
No. Lume is a wellness product, not a medical device. It doesn't diagnose or treat any condition. It helps you see your own cortisol pattern, so you have better information for your day-to-day choices and for conversations with your doctor.
Our first Lume units are designed for Apple Watch. The Lume band attaches to your watch and combines its sensors with our own. From there, Lume will expand to work with any smart wearable and, eventually, as a standalone device, so you can pair it with the wearable you already love or wear Lume on its own.
